CESM hosts AZ SME Annual Conference Workshop on December 7th 2025
The Center for Environmentally Sustainable Mining successfully hosted the workshop "Hands-On, Minds On: A Workshop for Advancing Leading Practices in Arid Mineland Reclamation - From Exploration to Closure" at the Westin La Paloma in Tucson on December 7th. The workshop was presented in collaboration with the Society for Mining Metallurgy and Exploration as part of the AZ SME Annual Conference. The workshop presented the new CESM initiative to develop an online Repository of Mine Reclamation Information that highlights leading management practices for arid lands. The objective of this online resource is to inform reclamation practitioners who want to go beyond the minimum standards for mineland reclamation as defined by state regulations.
The workshop goal was to gain feedback from participants on how this reclamation resource could enhance outcomes in hard rock mine reclamation. CESM successfully united industry leaders, consultants, academics and agency representatives to explore real world case studies for successful mine reclamation across the entire mine life cycle. Panel discussions sparked open conversations on early planning and community engagement.
A big thank you to all presenters and participants for helping to drive this initiative forward. Together, we are building a trusted knowledge base that is supportive of responsible mining.
